KIDS CRAFTS FOR FATHER'S DAY

Father's Day gives children the opportunity to try out their art and craft skills and make something special for dad.

A Father's Day card is a must, and even though they are very quick and easy to make, they will be treasured for a long time.

CARD MAKING FOR FATHER'S DAY

You will need:

  • Thin card and paper in assorted colours
  • Assorted foam or paper shapes or pictures cut from an old magazine
  • PVA glue
  • Pencil, ruler, scissors and felt-tip pens

You can make a variety of Father's Day cards with just a few crafty bits and pieces. Here are just a few suggestions to get you started.

Vehicles Card

  1. Fold a piece of coloured card in half to form your basic greetings card.
  2. Cut one or two smaller rectangles of card or paper in contrasting colours and mount onto the centre of your card.
  3. Add a selection of pre-cut foam vehicles shapes or draw and cut out your own shapes from scraps of foam, card or paper or cut pictures from an old magazine.
  4. Add your message and any other decorations as required.

Dolphin Card
  1. Fold a piece of white card in half to form your basic greetings card.
  2. If you have some fancy cut scissors, give the card a decorative (wavy) edge and cut round a rectangular piece of blue corrugated card to make a mount for your design. Glue the mount in place on the front of your card.
  3. Take a pre-cut foam dolphin shape and glue in place over the corrugated mount. Alternatively, draw and cut out your own design from scraps of foam or card or cut pictures from an old magazine.
  4. Add your message and any other decorations as required.

Pop up Golf Card

  1. Fold a piece of coloured card in half to form your basic greetings card.
  2. Cut a rectangle of thin card in a contrasting colour for the golf bag and fold in half lengthways.
  3. Fold over about 1cm at each side of the rectangle and glue these flaps to the inside of the card. Make sure that the centre fold of the rectangle lines up with the centre fold of the card and that the golf bag pops up and flattens when the card is opened and closed.
  4. Draw or stick 'pockets' onto the sides of the bag to decorate.
  5. Cut 5 golf clubs from scraps of silver card. Glue 2 of these to the card itself, either side of the centre fold, and another 2 to the inside of the golf bag to create a 3-D effect. Glue the last golf club to the front of the card and add a small white circle for the golf ball. (Tip: Use one of the little paper circles you'll find in the waste compartment of a hole punch!)
  6. Add your own message to the front and inside of the card.
